So after a car wash it was realized that the right rear valve stem was leaking around the rim. So we needed to get new tires anyhow but I was planning on going to Costco since one of my students works there and the staff speaks English. However due to the leaking valve stem I didn’t want to chance getting a flat on the 30 or so minute drive. Anyhow we headed to Autobacs to get the tires.
While we were there I said what the hell I’ll get an oil change while they have the car in the air. Well hell what a confusing ordeal that wassince my Japanese is still weak, first we had to select the oil which I just pointed out some decent 5W-30 since the summer’s comming. So after that I had to listen to a sales pitch about the engine cleaning service for an extra 4500yen. I was thinking about doing it since it’s actually been a year since the last oil change, which the sales staff overheard my wife asking me about. Anyways I said no for now since we were putting out the cash on the tires. So I thought it was over but then I asked if the filter is included in the service. Nope extra service, oh hell, so then they asked me about the engine cleaning again which I thought about again replied it’s ok for now. So they reworked the reciept for the third time. After that I drove the car into the service bay.
Finally after the oil change guy drained the oil he came in and highly recommended the engine cleaning service. I listened to the exaggerated sales pitch again and just decided to try the service thinking about th service I used to do to get the gunk out of engines. Anyhow after paying 4500yen whatever I payed for must have been done really fast cause I don’t what they did for the money. Next month I’ll be pulling off the valve cover for a quick peak to see if the service worked. Not saying it was a totally bad experience since my lack of Japanese doesn’t help me but some stuff is just much more confusing then it should be here. Ahh well tires and oil changed so all is good for now. Except the lack of money hahaha.
