So I saw some bumper quick releases being sold for A LOT more than they seemed to be worth…so I decided to make something of my own using the same principle. I went to the hardware store and found these two little disks that when stacked together, made sort of a pulley/wheel shape. The o-ring can Ride in the groove of the pulley/wheel and the o-ring pulls the two together. Its super simple and only takes 8 of these little wheel/pulley things(or 4 if you actually buy some small plastic pullys), some hardware, and an o-ring to make. Be sure that you put a big washer on the back side that matches the size of the your pulley, wheel, or whatever you use.
I’m aware I haven’t really “invented” anything here, but this is a good alternative to latch’s if you have FRP body parts. A latch doesn’t allow the two panels to flex from one another, the o-ring will. In my case, it pulls the bumper up and into the notch of the fender, so if i’m backing out of a spot and the bumper snags on something, it will just flex or snap the o-ring instead of ripping the latch off and taking a chunk out of my fender/bumper….I hope.
Now hopefully I can get a good coat of satin black on her this weekend, gotta look good for the Fall Drift Matsuri! -stay tuned.
